Ultralight Equipment – Practical Lists

This page outlines a proven set of ultra‑light essentials and the mindset behind carrying less while remaining responsible for the horse.

Ultra‑light equipment in trail riding is not about minimalism for its own sake.
It is about clarity, restraint, and understanding consequences — especially when a horse carries the load over time.
The list below reflects equipment that has proven functional in real trail riding contexts.
It is not complete, fixed, or universal.

The principle: If you want to travel comfortably, take as little as possible.

These lists reflect what has proven necessary on real trails — not what looks good in catalogs.

They are guidelines, not dogma. Adapt them to terrain, weather and distance.

Important note

These lists are not meant to be carried in full every time.

Ultralight riding means:

  • selecting what is needed for this ride

  • leaving everything else behind

  • accepting that simplicity increases safety

The more experience you gain, the shorter your list becomes.
